Crime down across Rochester & Strood

Teresa Murray, Labour PPC for Rochester & Strood has congratulated Kent Police for the record drop in Crime recorded across Medway. The drop in crime is a response to the hard work of police officers and PCSO's and the public who have responded well to the community based approach of crime reduction.

Cllr Teresa Murray said:

'The police have worked tremendously hard, and the reduction in crime across Medway reflects the efforts of law enforcement professionals to challenge anti-social behaviour and petty crime. The police have been working closely with local government to partner with the commununity, and it is clear that the approach of increased funding, more police on the beat and the establishment of Community Support Officers has reaped dividends. More work remains in some areas where the Tory Council needs to step up to the mark and provide services for young people including community centres and activities for younger citizens.'

The Statistics sourced from the British Crime Survey and official Kent Police figures reveal that overall crime in the Towns is down by 18.4 per cent, which is almost 1000 fewer offences.

The Conservative Party opposed extra funding for the police and the establishment of Police Community Support Officers. The Tories also opposed the government Respect programme to reduce anti-social behaviour which continues to blight areas of Rochester & Strood.
