Fare's Fair for Medway Commuters
Teresa Murray, Labour PPC for Rochester & Strood is supporting the efforts of Jonathan Shaw MP and Paul Clark MP to improve rail services for Medway commuters including a fair fare, cleaner trains, modern rolling stock and trains which are punctual and reliable. She has also campaigned for the modernisation of Strood & Rochester railway stations.
Cllr Teresa Murray said:
'Before 1997, we had railways starved of investment and that had suffered serious neglect following the bodged tory privatisation and the creation of Railtrack. Labour has renationalised the railway infrastructure and has increased funding to modernise stock and improve punctuality and safety. Whilst most commuters have noted improvement its still the responsibility of politicians and commuters to challenge the railway companies on fare increases, cleanliness and punctuality. We are working closely with the Minister for the South East and local Medway Labour MP Jonathan Shaw to hold SouthEastern Trains to account in Rochester and Strood.'
Whilst the Tories bodged privatisation led to a poor service and delays. Labour is promoting the development of the railway infrastructure that will benefit future generations.
