Investment for Rochester Riverside
Teresa Murray has welcomed Rt Hon Caroline Flint MP, Labour Minister for Housing to Rochester to highlight the investment by the Labour Government in regenerating parts of Rochester. The visit by Caroline Flint represents the start of the next phase of regeneration for Rochester & Strood, which will see the investment of more than GBP 1bn over the next 20 years across the Thames Gateway.
According to the government, it is hoped regeneration of the towns of Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham and Strood will turn Medway into "a premier European city."
Commenting on the ministerial visit, Teresa Murray stated
"It has taken a Labour Government and significant investment to rebuild parts of our community left for decades by successive Conservative Governments. It is the Labour who is delivering capital projects across Medway, supported by the residents of Rochester & Strood. This project emphasises the need for continued investment in improving schools, hospitals, railway and our urban environment and not back to the tory policies of cuts to public expenditure."
The Medway Renaissance Regeneration Framework includes the building of 8,000 homes and the creation of 10,000 jobs with the development of 11km of ex-industrial land along the river, he said.
Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and many of our urban centres were blighted by years of Tory neglect. The Thames Gateway project is major project to renew and improve the lives of residents across Rochester & Strood.
